Usually being a part of summative evaluation, projects not only provide possibility to document the achieved level of students\u2019 mathematical competency, but they also have an impressive ability to actively contribute to the development process of particular competency components. The paper scrutinises what is a reasonable problem complexity taking into consideration students\u2019 uncritical wants and attempts to use artificial intelligence contrary to reached level of knowledge, and their unwillingness to learn and face learning challenges. Considering the above, appropriate guidance instructions can lead to higher inner motivation for greater interest in study. On the other hand, overly detailed instructions limit the learning process, especially in terms of understanding conceptual connections, and disable the student\u2019s own contribution to the project work.
